Barberino Val d'Elsa

A little gem dominating the valley of river Elsa, from which it takes its name, Barberino Val d’Elsa is a small medieval town, part of the Chianti wine district. It is located 30 km south of Florence, at an altitude of 373m, in a quiet region made of oak woods, rows vineyards and olive trees.

Among the interesting things to see in the city center, we point out Palazzo Pretorio, the 14th century Porta Senese ( Sienese Gate ), the Ospedale dei Pellegrini ( Pilgrims’ Hospice ) dating from 1365 and the majestic Church of San Bartolomeo. A short drive outside the city center, the Chapel of San Michele Arcangelo is worth a visit; Santi di Tito built this chapel in 1597 as a perfect 1:8 scale reproduction of the more popular Cupola of the Cathedral of Florence, on the site of the ancient city of Semifonte, razed to the ground by the Florentines in 1202.

From La Canonica di Cortine, a 10-minute drive on a scenic route will allow our guests to enjoy a peaceful break in a romantic site.
